Along Keith's journey, he has discovered a universal need for emotional and physical healing nationwide.  As a good steward of his time, gifts, and talents, he proudly advocates for 3 cause-worthy missions that drive campaigns raising awareness for services that benefit at-risk youth, adults, veterans, and families in need through his 501(c)3 non-profit organization known as Light It Up.

Yoga is not just about stretching and flexibility! Yoga teaches you to connect with your body and be aware of it unlike any other way.

The key to injury prevention is introducing athletes to yoga techniques BEFORE they are seriously injured ensuring they do not experience injury to the same extent, if at all.

Often overlooked, yoga’s main benefit for athletes  is injury prevention.

Often we ignore the body’s cry for help until it is much too late.  The practice of yoga and meditation teaches individuals that the mind and body are not machines - but rather living dynamic organisms needing to recuperate and recharge.  For this reason, athletes are the very people who benefit when this lesson is practiced.

Athletes work tirelessly on rigorous schedules and grueling workout regiments.  Being that the body needs to recharge and stretch, athletes benefit by taking time out to nurture and restore their bodies back to 100%.

Yoga instruction provided by a professional instructor can help prevent harmful strain on the body. The value of working with Keith, a former professional NFL athlete and Professional Certified Master Yoga Instructor with 10+ years of experience, is that he understands the world of sports and can check clients for proper body alignment eliminating unnecessary injury.

Campaign for NFL Player Wellness & Rehabilitation

During 2013, Keith Mitchell successfully executed a televised YOGA meditation session for both current and former NFL athletes which later aired on national Television networks, ESPN 2 and the NFL network.  The result of this initiative helped to debunk several myths about the practice of YOGA that often discourage many men from exploring.

A growing number of veterans deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan yet struggle with serious mental health problems including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
  • Depression
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

Our soldiers who have risked their lives to serve our country can experience the healing effects of yoga and meditation!  Mindful daily practices may help veterans lead more successful post-deployment lives, while helping them transition back to civilian life and reconnect with themselves, friends, and families.

Keith is committed to helping former and existing veterans, returning from active duty, cope with combat-related stress issues. Yoga can be extremely beneficial to those who are transitioning home from deployment, suffering with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) because it provides guiding insights on reconnecting with civil life, relieving stress and regaining control over nervous system disorders.

YOGA & MEDIATION are natural methods for helping veterans better manage their nervous systems that may always be “on edge”, and overcome self-destructive behaviors and habits that may be controlling their lives. Above all, these practices can be used by everyone, especially, veterans seeking to be re-connected within as we are ALL in the present moment, letting us ALL feel comfortable in our own skin and also healing concealed traumas that dwell in the body, mind, and spirit.

Caring for Military Veterans

On May 7th, 2014 Keith conducted a live “Mindfulness Meditation” presentation  in Washington D.C.  for 30 members of Congress during Mental Health Month, with live media coverage on CNN.  Among these influential attendees, was Congressman Tim Ryan.

The significance of his visit to the White House is to propose a business plan to launch several franchise holistic healing facilities throughout the US, addressing veterans facing severe post-traumatic stress disorders and other ailments which haunt them and their families long after combat.

To our Armed forces who have risked their lives, serve our country, we salute you for all your sacrifices!

Children | Youth

Exposing children to YOGA & MEDITATION at early ages offers many opportunities to exchange wisdom, share good times, and lay the foundation for a lifelong practice that will remain with them as they grow.

The Physical Benefits to growing children are:

  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Breathing
  • Calms Hyperactivity
  • Posture Improvement
  • Balance and more!

Keith understands that their development is positively influenced as these mindful practices provides children with intangible benefits such as greater self-awareness, improvement of self-esteem, release of anxiety, increased focus and concentration while learning, cognitive development and better intuition.   volunteers additional time to schools and organizations such as Let's Effect and the Apex Academy Charter, among others, to influence youth throughout the year.

Combating the obesity crisis and promoting healthy lifestyle among America’s youth

During January 2015, Keith & his foundation, the Light It Up Foundation launched a new Los Angeles Youth Health Expo in collaboration with the AltaMed Foundation, called the Mindful Living Health Expo & AltaMed 5k, to educate youth from ages 10-17 and their families about the importance of proper nutrition and physical fitness to achieve a healthy lifestyle.  We are thankful to everyone who donated their time and supported this event.
